POWERWAX BY POWERTEX

This is the water-based cold wax I use to create the same effects as cold wax with oils. It’s called Powerwax, and it's made by Powertex. Powertex has representatives in most countries, so feel free to contact me at marinatvb@outlook.com if you need help finding one!

What is this class about?

This course is designed to guide you step-by-step through the exciting world of cold wax painting. We’ll start with an introduction to the basics, then explore the essential tools you’ll need. Next, you'll build your technique toolbox, learning key methods for working with cold wax and acrylics. From there, we’ll dive into three detailed projects, where you'll apply what you've learned, and I’ll show you several demos to inspire and spark your creativity. Introduction to painting with cold wax & acrylics

What is water-based cold wax (Powerwax) and why are we adding it to our paint? What ratio do we use? Does it affect the drying time? You will find the answers to your questions in this section.

Tools of the Trade

In this module, you'll discover the essential tools and how to use them effectively. You'll also explore different substrates, paints, and drawing tools to expand your creative possibilities

Technique Toolbox

In this module, we’ll explore a variety of techniques to elevate your painting. You’ll learn how to create texture, layer without making mud, apply a glaze with a transparent color, and transfer paint using a 'donor' surface. We’ll also cover how to use a veil of color to add a sense of mystery, as well as incorporate inks and pigments for even more depth.  Each of these techniques will add history and interest!

 Step by step projects

In this module, you'll work through three step-by-step projects: create mini-abstracts using cold wax and pigments, paint an expressive landscape, and bring vibrant flowers to life with cold wax and acrylics. Each project builds on your skills, guiding you to apply what you’ve learned in fun, creative ways.

Wax & Demo's 

In this module, you'll explore five inspiring demos: wax with sand for more texture, wax with vibrant color, wax on a crackled background, and finally, how to finish and frame your masterpiece.
These demos will show you how to push your cold wax techniques further and bring unique elements into your artwork.

What is the difference between the cold wax and other acrylic mediums?

There are many acrylic mediums that can create texture effects, but each one offers different results. What makes cold wax unique is how it makes your paints beautifully transparent and gives them a soft, matte finish that’s hard to achieve with other acrylic mediums. Mixing cold wax into your paints not only enhances the texture but also adds a distinctive, elegant touch to your artwork.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Powerwax is made by a company called Powertex. They are in Belgium but there are local representatives in many countries. Just google Powertex and your country and they will come up. If you need help, shoot me a message at marinatvb@outlook.com

The only water-based cold wax I have found is made by Powertex and is called Powerwax. Unfortunately I have not found a way to make it myself (like I do with the oil based cold wax medium) There is a Powertex representative in many countries, they have a lot of other fun products too! 

This course opens the 20th of October. Once you bought the class, you will have lifetime access to the recorded tutorials, so you can watch them whenever you want, and as many time you wish. *lifetime means as long as the school is in business. 

The teaching platform that I host my courses on only allows for 1 currency option. I decided to opt for USD as my students are worldwide. Once you check out, the amount will be shown in your local currency.

I always encourage students to use the art supplies they have. In this class, you will need acrylics, water-based cold wax (Powerwax from Powertex) and a support like mixed media paper. The rest is optional and adds to the fun of mixed media painting.

You get lifetime access to the classroom and videos. "Lifetime" technically means for as long as my business is up and running. You can watch the videos within the classroom as many times as you wish. Make sure that your internet connection allows you to smoothly stream high resolution videos online. Refunds will not be made after registration.
